There will be no swimming events for this year’s varsity competition, as it was announced the team would not be competing for points against Worcester.
Swimming will be replaced by Trampolining events next week when the annual varsity events get underway.
Maddie Browne, a member of the UoG swimming team expressed her disappointment about not competing.
She said: I’m not very happy with it because swimming is a really big event and we bring in a lot of supporters. It would have been a really good opportunity to celebrate swimming, represent the uni and compete against Worcester.
With no events during the week of Varsity, Borwne discussed what the team would be getting up to in the week off.
“We’re just having normal training, and won’t be competing that week, just training for any upcoming events for the rest of the year.“
“We have looked at doing our own event, a sort of fake varsity against Worcester so we’ll have to see if that goes ahead or not.“
Browne did get a chance to represent the University two weeks ago in the BUCS events in Sheffield.
The first year swimmer spoke on her experiences at the event.
“It went really well and it was a big success. Myself personally I got a PB (personal best) in my 55 metres, which I was quite shocked by as I haven’t trained as much as I would have been at home. I really enjoyed the day and it was a pleasure to represent the uni.”
