Gloucester City manager Dafydd Williams had strong words to say after watching his team salvage a point on the road against Wimborne Town, describing the first half performance as “way below standard” and questioning the character shown during a difficult fixture.
Daf admitted he “didn’t like” what he saw as the side fell 2–0 behind.
“The disappointment of the first half was the lack of character and resilience we were showing when we were suffering.”
Despite the deficit, he felt the game could easily have swung either way before the break “Half-time could easily have been 3–3,” he insisted.”
But costly lapses proved decisive. “The first goal is a moment we lacked concentration.
“The second goal is another moment, even though it’s something we’d prepared the players for.”
The turnaround came after half-time, and Daf was quick to praise the response. “Credit where it’s due, they responded magnificently in the second half,” he said. “As a collective, we were a lot better, more intense, more competitive.”
The substitutes were central to that shift, and Daf highlighted their impact. “I thought they were outstanding, very, very good,” he said of Marcus Day, Sion Spence and Ellis Watts.
On making changes at the break.
“I could have brought all 11 off. It was nothing on Morgs (Ben Morgan) or Hanksy (Joe Hanks), but tactically it made sense.”
Attention now turns to Friday’s home clash with Yate Town, a game Daf views as crucial.
“It’s a big game for us now,” he said. “We’ve dropped more points than we would’ve liked.
“We need to bounce back, and we need to respond.”
His expectations remain high.
“I don’t lose two games on the bounce that just doesn’t happen. And I don’t like going three games without winning.”
Daf ended with a message for his own players, “We’ve got to be a different beast.
” We’ve shown it this season when we’re on top now we need to show it when we’re suffering.”
