“I don’t remember a team that has ever bullied us like this” – Danny Wright on Gloucester City’s late loss to Tamworth

Gloucester City forward Danny Wright admitted his side were “bullied” by National League North leaders Tamworth.

Wright thought he gave his side the lead early on but was ruled off for an apparent hand ball by the referee.

“The first goal it hit my arm then hit my body, I’ve then touched it round the keeper.” Wright said. “I’m sure if it goes to VAR it gets disallowed because its touched my hand but it was booted at me from 2 yards.”

Fortunes finally changed for the 39-year-old when Lambs keeper Jas Smith fluffed his lines, leaving Gloucester’s forward a simple chip over the keeper to give the Tigers a second half lead.

Luck for the Tigers ran out as two late goals from Tamworth would hinder the home side’s desperate fight to survive relegation.

After defeat at the death Wright said: “I don’t think you can look at the performance and say we folded under the constant pressure from them. With the goal, I thought it was going to get us more, I thought it was going to get us three points, we had a couple of chances where we could have put the game to bed.”

When asked about the physicality he said ” The first half defending them long throws was tough, his throws were almost going in themselves, I’ve cleared a couple off the line, I love those kinds of games.”

It wasn’t all doom and gloom as the Forward had some praise for his side ” It’s disappointing but at least we showed up tonight, we showed a bit of character tonight much more than the weekends game.”

Gloucester now turn to Saturday as the tigers travel to 10th place Warrington in their continuous fight to stay in the National League North.
