“We look a different beast” – Hartpury’s Jack Davies after stunning former coach Billy Twelvetrees and League favourites Worcester Warriors

“I’m lost for words to be honest,” said Jack Davies after Hartpury held off a late surge from league favourites Worcester Warriors in the Championship to win 28-25.

“To take a scalp like that second game of the season after going down to Cornish Pirates and getting a first time ever win at Mennaye Field last week is just massive for the group,” Davies continued.

“It brings a lot of confidence going into next week.”

It was a game with an edge to it as former Gloucester rugby player and last years head coach at Hartpury, Billy Twelvetrees returned to a sold out 4ED Stadium as Warriors new player-coach.

Davies was full of praise for the new additions to the squad; “We lost a few players and a coach but I have to give a massive pat to Ashley Johnson coming in.”

“Defensivley we look a different beast and the quality of our collissions have gone up

“We are building our game on that resillience.”

In their first season back from administration Worcester Warriors are considered favourites to return back to the Gallagher Premiership where they’ve previously spent 16 seasons.

“As a group we were confident that we could win the game,” said Davies.

The expectations and visiting crowd didn’t faulter the Hartpury lock; “There’s a lot of talk about Worcester bringing fans but we’ve played Gloucester here in the Premiership Cup twice and they brough quite a few because its on their doorstep.

“We are used to playing in these games now, these bigger occasions than you wouldn’t normally get in the Championship and we rose to the occasion.”

Hartpury have started the season strong with back to back wins where promotion to the Gallagher Premiership is now available under the new two-legged play-off system.

They’ll travel to Bedford Blues on Saturday looking to make it a perfect three from three to start the season.

“Week to week we’ve got one of the toughest starts to Championship,” Davies explained.

“With our first six or seven fixtures, its about keeping our focus on the next game and how we can best prepare for that.”
