Last season, Alex Bonthron accomplished something that not many people in the lower leagues of football can relate to, representing their country.
Bonthron had a standout season last year in the Cymru South, scoring 30 goals and 10 assists in 28 games, and even won the golden boot.
He reminisced on when he was selected to represent Wales in the UEFA Regions Cup in Serbia, saying:
“Last season was definitely one to remember, I scored a lot of goals and won the golden boot in the league was a huge achievement for me.
“Also going to Serbia to represent my country in the UEFA Regions cup was a once in a lifetime thing, to put on the Welsh jersey and go and score in every game was a dream come true. I’m just disappointed we couldn’t have taken it further by progressing in the tournament!” he said proudly.

After spending two years in Welsh football, he made his first appearance in the English league. Cinderford Town have been struggling in the Southern League Division One South, they were in need of a striker before Bonthron made his move to Cinderford Town at the beginning of last month.
“I wanted to challenge myself in the English league, and as I’ve played Welsh league for a number of years now, I fancied a bit of a change,” Bonthron said.

Since his transfer to the Causeway, the 31-year-old has made an instant impact of the field. Scoring eight goals in six games, including hat-trick in their 3-1 victory over Cribbs last month, a performance rewarded with the match ball.

He secured his eighth goal on Saturday as the Foresters managed to bring home an important three points away to Falmouth.
Bonthron spoke about how important last week’s game was for the team, he stated:
“It was a massively important game, a super long drive down there so to come home with three points, and a goal was great for us.”
Despite their unfortunate start to the season, currently sitting in at the bottom of the table. The Foresters are hoping to fight their way out of the relegation zone to ensure they stay in the league next season.
