“That’s a fantastic win against a side who are meant to be near the top of league one” Michael Flynn full of praise following cup success

League two Cheltenham travelled to Rotherham who are in League one for some FA Cup action this weekend which saw a surprise result as the Robins came out on top with a 3-1 victory, meaning the Robins will travel to Salford for the second round and hoping to put themselves into the hat for round 3, which they have failed to reach for the last 3 seasons.

Robins manager Michael Flynn was delighted with his sides efforts when we caught up with him, “I thought we were outstanding, we knew they were going to hit the diags, we played some good stuff grew into the game.”

“It’s about the belief, what we are doing and we wanted to take our game to Rotherham we stood very tall” it was a very spirited performance from the away side who now have a new found confidence within the team.

This result was a surprise for Flynn, “I didn’t think Joel would ever score a header; great header, diving header and then Ethon topped it off” Joel Colwill scored his third and fourth goals of the season as he continues to impress on his loan spell from Cardiff, alongside winger Ethon Archer who also scored his fourth of the season with a marvellous solo run where he made it 3-1 to the visitors, arguably the Reds two outstanding performers of the season delivering again.

“And Joe not having much to do was very, very pleasing, when called upon Joe made a fantastic save” Robins keeper Joe Day faced 2 shots on target throughout the 90 minutes although he did concede it was a very pleasing performance from the away side who have only kept two clean sheets all season.

Its been a difficult season for the Robins who sit 16th in league two however only five points off the play off spots but are just beginning to turn there season around with that win now making it four wins from the last five and unbeaten in their last five matches in all competitions.

“I just think we have been a lot more consistent for the duration of the game and not just one half, but we are a new team, a new squad it will take some time to get to the finished article but it feels it is getting better.”

Cheltenham host Reading at at 19:00 in the EFL trophy on Tuesday 5th November.
