“I thought we played really good football” – Oxford United Women’s manager Sam Rose on his side’s 5-0 victory over Actonians

Oxford United Women’s are through to the Second Round proper of the Adobe Women’s Fa Cup after thrashing Actoninas 5-0 at the RAW Charging Stadium.

Manager Sam Rose was “really pleased” with his side’s performance and is “looking forward to tomorrow for the draw” https://www.thefa.com/competitions/the-womens-fa-cup

A quick start by the U’s was rewarded by an early goal from midfielder Jenna Legg. A first Oxford United goal for Sarah King put the yellows two goals to the good midway through the first half, and then a Phoebie Poole strike gave Oxford a 3-0 lead heading into the interval, before two second-half strikes from youngster Lucy Trinder confirmed Oxford’s place into the Second Round proper of the Adobe Women’s Fa cup.

Rose was delighted with the victory and how relentless his team was, but felt his side could’ve punished the visitors much more: “Credit to the opposition, It could’ve been more on the day, the keepers made some really good saves and kept the scoreline that little bit closer.”

Overall, it was a good day’s work for Rose and his players:

Oxford Women’s have started the season very strongly, winning seven, drawing one and losing two. The U’s are currently six games unbeaten after yesterday’s win.

This season Oxford have managed to score 40 goals in 13 matches and only conceded 10.

Oxford’s next two league matches are away against league leaders Hashtag United and then Ipswich Town who sit third with two games in hand. https://fulltime.thefa.com/displayTeam.html?divisionseason=783717495&teamID=805012485

The yellows sit second in the Women’s National League (Southern section) one point behind leaders Hashtag United.

The U’s haven’t faced Hashtag this season, but the Tags will be arriving into the game in a confident spirit after beating Oxford three times last season, winning both league games and winning a cup game. Hashtag beat Oxford in the League Cup first round last season and went on to win the whole competition, beating Newcastle United Women 2-1 in the final at Kenilworth Road.

Oxford manager Rose knows what task lies ahead and has full focus on his team’s upcoming fixtures: “We know how important the next two games are for us.

It will be full steam ahead really, we need a good week at the training ground, we need to get patched up with a few knocks which people are carrying, and then we will be in a good position come the weekend and we want to make the most of the opportunity in front of us.”
