Richard Wood took over the managerial role for Swindon Town Women as Ex manager Mike Cook left to take on Manager’s role at National League North side Gloucester City.
It was Wood’s first home game at The County Ground as manager, where his team took all three points as well as securing their first clean sheet of the season in the WPL Division One League.
Town Women have won all three games at The County Ground and Wood is very grateful to be given the opportunity to play at the ground.
“It is a big privilege to manage at The County Ground, it feels like home here for me and the girls and we are very excited for what the season has in place for us.”
This would be Wood’s third game in charge for Town following a last week exit out of the FA WNL Cup loosing 3-0 against Rugby Borough.
Wood has come out and stated that the result is what Town needed however it was a challenge.
“I would say I am delighted however; it was a difficult game to get chances and we was not clinical enough but the girls have been on top.
“Playing at The County Ground with great atmosphere helped a lot which turned it into a nice comfortable win.”
Swindon Town Women sit fourth in the table with 13 points received and Wood believes this result is a ‘big’ one for the club at this moment in time for the season.
He says “This win is a crucial one for us, it helps us continue our role as we have a very busy week coming up with a midweek game ahead of us, therefore we just got to keep it rolling and keep the confidence high.
“The clean sheet is important to us, that is something we spoke about during half time, to make sure we get that clean sheet as we have been leaking goals in every game, so a positive we can take from this.”
The Reds take on Maidenhead United this Wednesday and Town manager will be looking to replicate the performance played:
“Every game is tough, I want more of the same for the next game, it is not easy even if I feel comfortable but I will be expecting another difficult game but we got to take each game as it comes and be the best that we can be.”
