A Gloucestershire-based cricketer has been selected as vice-captain for England Over-60’s World Cup squad ahead of next year’s tournament in India.
Edward Gordon Lennox, who plays his club cricket for Tarbarrow Cricket Club, near Cirencester and has played an integral role in the England side’s recent success.
England won the Caribbean Cup, Grey Ashes and Canada Cup in 2023 with the 61-year-old all-rounder at the heart of the side’s recent victories.
Captain Richard Merriman is excited to see his selected outfit in action when the tournament is set to take place in Chennai next year.
“Perfect preparations lead to perfect performances,” the Loughborough-born skipper said.
“It’s our objective to be perfectly prepared with clear objectives and fitness plans for all and an understanding of the demands of playing in the intensity of India.
“We will shortly be announcing our training camp at Loughborough to which we will be inviting top professionals to help prepare us for India and the World Cup.
“This is a hugely exciting time; a once-in-a-lifetime chance to be crowned World Champions.”
Gordon Lennox finished as the fifth-most prolific fielder with three catches and one run out and will look for further glory as part of the World Cup set-up next year.
The tournament will get underway on February, 12, 2024 and finish on March, 5, 2024.
