Cheltenham Town midfielder Tommy Backwell faces a race to be fit before the end of the season, after being told he is likely be sidelined for the next two months.
The January signing from Championship side Bristol City was forced off after 54 minutes with a hamstring issue in Town’s 3-2 defeat to Peterborough United in the Vertu Trophy.

With just 11 weeks between now and the Robins’ final game of the season away to Bromley, Backwell may struggle to return to fitness to play for the Robins again this season.
Since joining Cheltenham, initially on loan on January 16, before the deal turned permanent at the end of the window, Backwell has made five appearances, earning four starts.

After a 27-minute cameo away at Harrogate less than 24 hours after the loan was finalised, Backwell was awarded with a start at home to Salford City 8 days later, and scored the opening goal in a 2-1 win.
Michael Flynn’s side return to the EV Charger Points Stadium on Saturday, February 15, where they will host Barrow at 15:00.
