Allianz Women’s Premier 15s: Gloucester-Hartpury remain top of the table after victory against Bristol Bears

Gloucester-Hartpury maintained their 100% win record in the Premier 15s this season, following their 19-17 victory over fierce rivals Bristol Bears in the West Country Derby on Saturday.

Gloucester-Hartpury remain top of the Premier 15s league following their victory on Saturday, with the gap between them and second place Exeter Chiefs Woman now just three points.

Things couldn’t look more different for Bristol Bears, as the club find themselves sixth in the league table, having lost five of their last nine fixtures.

It took just 16 minutes for Gloucester-Hartpury to break the deadlock, as full-back Emma Sing raced over the line after a brilliant passing sequence.

Things went from bad to worse for Bristol as the League leaders scored their second try of the game on 21 minutes, thanks to their centre Rachel Lund.

Bristol bit back on 35 minutes as Simi Pam showed her power, muscling off two Hartpury players to get her side right back into the game.

The momentum didn’t last long however, as three minutes later Hartpury’s 12-point lead was re-established when Ellie Rugman dashed through the Bristol defence to score her ninth try of the season – more than anyone else, making the score 19-7 at half-time.

The Bears came out fighting in the second half, tries from Amber Reed and Lark Davies gave Hartpury a fright, but an unsuccessful conversion from Elinor Snowsill meant Gloucester sustained their narrow two-point lead as the Cherry and White’s defended well late on to secure victory.
