“Absolute Stinker” Ian Holloway’s assessment of the officiating in Swindon Town vs Walsall

Swindon Town claimed a 1-1 draw against Walsall as Ian Holloway thought they should have gone down to 10 men following a tackle from their keeper.

The officiating has been highlighted as of late with Steve Cotterill the manager of Cheltenham Town explaining the frustrations he had in their last home game against Salford, and Holloway didn’t hold back on his assessment of the officiating in Swindon’s game against Walsall.

“The Referee had an absolute stinker for them, I think Connor Ripley should have been sent off and it should have been a penalty but maybe that changes our luck”.

Swindon went up early in the game having scored in the fifth minute of the game due to Irish striker Aaron Drinan, but failed to see the game through conceding 50 minutes later to Tai Sodje.

“Unfortunately we only got one point but it stops the rot, lets see if we can win away from home we have got two opportunities.”

Speaking on the early goal he said “The lads needed a boost, I hoped that would give them one. After that there were a few breakaway chances where we won it back and could’ve made the right choice but we were ahead by half time.”

Holloway also recognised the risk he took starting Joseph Hungbo who had only seen seven minutes against Rochdale, “I was brave enough to start half fit Hungbo, and unfortunately you only saw the half fit Hungbo. We need him, we need someone who can do that, I took a gamble with it and it could have paid off but one or two of those passes they will do on another day.”

Holloway changed to a back five to take on Walsall. ” I felt you could get at their back four and we did, I thought we broke away in the first half, just a slightly frustrating choice or extra weight on the pass and if we are already winning then I think those things could be goals but unfortunately that’s where we are.”

Swindon Town now extend their unwanted run to eight games without a win in all competitions, with their last victory being in League Two against Colchester United claiming a 3-1 win on the fifth of September. Swindon will be looking to use this draw to push for a win mid week on Tuesday against Barnet away from home.
