Manchester City have reportedly been charged by the Premier League over breaches of financial rules in an investigation that took place throughout the span of four years.
According to the BBC Sport website the alleged breaches took place from the 2009/10 season to the 2017/18 campaign. The club is charged with breaching rules regarding “in utmost good faith” of “accurate financial information that gives a true and fair view of the club’s financial position”.

It’s not the first time City have been in this situation as back in 2020 the club was handed a two-year ban from European competitions after UEFA ruled that the Premier League side had committed “serious breaches” of Financial Fair Play [FFP]. However City managed to get the ban overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
It has been declared that City have breached more than 100 of the Premier league’s financial rules and that some of the punishments could be as severe as being removed from the league and a 15 point reduction to their current tally.
Manchester City themselves have released an official statement on their website:
“Manchester City FC is surprised by the issuing of these alleged breaches of the Premier League Rules, particularly given the extensive engagement and vast amount of detailed materials that the EPL has been provided with.
“The Club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent Commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position.
As such we look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all”.
