“Yeah, obviously it’s a dream when you’re coming from lower leagues, it’s something that you dream of” – Cheltenham Town’s Jordan Thomas after his brace against Colchester United

23-year-old Jordan Thomas joined the club last season in January, but today, the winger managed to score his first and second EFL goals as Cheltenham Town beat Colchester United 2-1 at the Job Serve Community Stadium.

Thomas scored after five minutes and would add a second just before halftime. “I didn’t really expect it, but we started off well early on. It was good to get the first goal,” the match-winner stated.

“I just tried getting myself into a good position, and luckily, Ethon played a great ball in, and I was able to put it into the back of the net.

“The second one looked to take a deflection, but luckily, I managed to put enough on it, and it went in.”

Thomas had previously missed the last few games through injury, only returning against Swindon the week prior.

“I had a hamstring injury, so I was out for a few weeks, but now I’m back and feeling sharp, so hopefully now I can push on and add to my goals tally and help the team keep winning.

“I feel like this is just the start for us, and I think it’s really good for the boys. We worked hard to earn all three points today, and we’re all really glad we got over the line in the end.”

Thomas was also full of praise towards manager Michael Flynn and his game plan, earning their first away win in League Two this season: “We all knew what our game plan was, and it ended up working out, and we’re glad that the work in the week we’re doing is paying off for the weekend.

“So, that’s what’s really important, working hard obviously (in training), and then making sure we put in our performances on the weekend”.

As well as scoring two goals for the Robins, Thomas highlighted the importance of the defensive side of his game in securing the win: “The most important thing was doing our recovery runs and doing the hard business to stop them scoring, and I think we did that well today.

“In the second half, they had quite a lot of the ball, but apart from Joe Day’s very late save, they didn’t have an awful lot of clear-cut chances.”

Jordan Thomas and The Robins’s next game will be at home at the EV Charger Points Stadium at Whaddon Road on Tuesday evening against a strong Bradford City side.
