“It gives me something to build on” – Swindon Town U18s midfielder Conor Britchford-Stanley on his goal, injury comeback, and victory against Forest Green Rovers U18s

Swindon Town U18s midfielder Conor Britchford-Stanley has admitted that it’s “good to get momentum back” after picking up a third consecutive league victory.

After coming on as a substitute, he scored to make it 2-0, which allowed his team to see out the game in a slightly more comfortable manner.

Britchford-Stanley was quick to compliment the performance of every individual, saying: “The midfield worked really hard to keep control of the game, especially towards the end in the dying stages of it.

“Defensively as well, getting loads of blocks and tackles in, especially at the back through Ant (McCormick) and Ali (Stewart). The boys stuck at it very well.”

The 17-year-old had only just returned to the matchday squad after a spell on the sidelines, and spoke about what the comeback process has been like.

“I’ve been working closely with Ryan (Hankins) and Sam (Grose) to get me back on the pitch,” he said.

“The first two weeks are normally resting, but the last two weeks, I’ve been doing loads of rehab and strengthening work on my ankle. It’s good to come back, get my first 30 minutes and especially to get a goal. It gives me something to build on.”

In regards to the goal, it was another substitute, Miles Obodo, who provided for Britchford-Stanley and gave nothing but credit to his teammate: “He’s done very well to find me for an easy tap-in. He’s created it for me and basically put it on a plate.”

Momentum is always a key factor in football, and Swindon Town have no shortage of that currently in regards to their league form.

It’s been especially crucial after the team picked up just two points in their first four league games that, Britchford-Stanley says, could’ve played out differently.

“We feel like we struggled at the start, but they were games we feel that we should have won,” he said.

“It’s good to get that momentum back and continue with our win streak.”

With no league game this week, the U18s are playing a friendly game against Fulham U18s, which Britchford-Stanley says will be a great test.

“That’ll be a challenge for us. Premier League opposition, but we showed last season that we can deal with that. We’ve definitely got the ability to do so.

“We just need to go into it as if it’s any other game and just play how we play.”
