Grassroots basketball ‘decimated’ by Covid says Gloucester Knights manager

Manager of the Gloucester Knight’s and UOG Raiders coach Ian Greaves believes it will be difficult for grassroots basketball to recover after it being ‘decimated’ by Covid 19.

Clubs have not been allowed to play competitively since September with many in the Gloucestershire area losing access to sports halls and leisure centres with little warning.

Greaves thinks the government need to do more to ensure basketball is saved in the county and around the UK.

He said: “I don’t think there’s been enough done. It’s the fact that you have all these teams who have been paying a lot of money for access to sports halls for the last 10 or 15 years and then ‘tough luck, you’re out’ with no likelihood that they’re going to get back in any time soon. “
