University of Gloucestershire are ‘ready and prepared’ for their big varsity competition against the University of Worcester next week

“It will be one to remember” says UOG student activities manager Beck Bennett ahead of the university’s biggest varsity sporting event next week.

More than 20 teams from the University will showcase their abilities over three days of sporting action as they go head-to-head with University of Worcester at well-known venues within Gloucestershire and Worcestershire.

Every year, both universities competing choose a campaign of their choice to raise awareness of problems all around the world and this year UOG’S campaign iscalled ‘Shaped your sport.’

University of Gloucestershire’s student activities manager Bennett believes this campaign will deliver important messages from each club to raise awareness of their preferred choice.

“Shape your sport is all about players really giving their voice to campaign something about what’s passionate to them.

“All of our clubs have chosen a different campaign that either resonates with the club or individuals within the club so we have a variety of different things to campaign for a charity.”

Last year, Gloucester fell to a frustrating defeat after missing out on just one point between Worcester with the rivals finishing 12 and Glos with 11 points.

Bennett is confident that Glos will have a great contest between Worcester with all clubs preparing as hard as they can.

“I think we have a real chance of winning this year, everyone is positive, focusing hard and this year’s varsity is going to be bigger and better than ever.

“The preparations have been super busy and this week we have been finalizing everything and we have got some good new ideas and new things in place to make this varsity one to remember.”

“We have got a dj coming for the arena day and lights we did not have last year and extra food vans, so the idea is for the students to have fun with it as well as making it more into an event.

The first day will be held at Oxstalls Sports Park with Trampoline starting the competition off followed by a full day with Women’s hockey, Fustal, Basketball and Tennis.

The second day is a Gloucester day again with American Football at 10am and Men’s rugby and Women match in the afternoon.

The final day is Worcester Wednesday with a full day packed starting off with badminton and volleyball at 9am and football, Women’s volleyball, dance and netball.

Everyone is welcome to join and support the University of Gloucestershire by bringing their voices as well as attending to as many games as they can Bennet said

“We need all the support we can as much as possible to show all the sports clubs that we are all proud of how far they have achieved and how far they have come into this year’s varsity.
