Ireland Lead Britain 10-5 In Prestbury Cup Ahead of St Patrick’s Thursday At Cheltenham Festival

There is always great rivalry between British and Irish-trained horses at the Cheltenham Festival.

The two compete for The Prestbury Cup, named after the nearest village to the Cheltenham Racecourse, which covers all 18 races of the festival.

The first to 14 winners takes the cup, which will be lifted by jockeys and trainers from Great Britain or Ireland once the result is confirmed.

DAY ONE

Ireland led Great Britain 5-2 after day one at the festival, with Marine Nationale, El Fabiolo, Honeysuckle, Jazzy Matty and Gaillard Du Mesnil victorious.

Corach Rambler and Constitution Hill were Britain’s only winners for Lucinda Russell and Nicky Henderson.

DAY TWO

Ireland extended their lead to 10-4 courtesy of A Dream To Share, Maskada, Delta Work, Energumene and Impaire Et Passe.

British-trained horses struggled again with just Langer Dan and The Real Whacker glorious at Cheltenham.

DAY THREE

Britain won the first race of day three, the Turners Noives’ Chase, with Stage Star for The Owners Group.

Shishkin and Luccia are Britain’s best hopes of closing the gap on St Patrick’s Thursday.
