Galopin Des Champs galloped away from the field to win the 2023 Gold Cup.
In a race full of falls and dramatic moments, jockey Paul Townend navigated his way through the carnage to get Galopin Des Champs over the line.
Speaking to ITV Sport, Paul Townend said: “Everywhere I went, there was trouble, they allowed me a chance to fill up and be the last one on the scene.”
After a thrilling race, fans took to Twitter.
Despite a number of falls throughout the race, fans expressed relief that all horses and jockeys appear to have emerged unscathed.
Owner of Galopin Des Champs Andrew Turley spoke to ITV Sport about his emotions after the race: “Well, I mean, it’s like a dream come true, it’s something I’ve never dreamt of.
“We never thought we’d be here, but such a wonderful horse as Gallop des Champs winning the Gold Cup and Cheltham Festival, we’re just so thrilled with huge support here.”
