Energumene secured victory in the Queen Mother Champion Chase for the second year running, as jockey Paul Townend rode his second winner of day two at the Cheltenham Festival.
The nine-year-old gelding was with the pack for a large chunk of the race but foraged several lengths into the lead to follow through on it’s pre race market promise.
Energumene was a big pre market favourite alongside the hotly tipped Edwardstone, who really failed to contest with the eventual winner, finishing in fifth place.
But the plaudits have gone to Energumene and rightly so, after running such a convincing chase that ended in a sparkling victory.
Brighton and Hove Albion owner Tony Bloom who is also the owner of winner Energumene looks set to have won a handsome amount after the race this afternoon.
