Shootout success for Evesham United

A happy return for fans as Evesham seal their best run in the competition since the 2000/01 season.

Evesham United won 5-4 on penalties against Bideford AFC at the weekend to progress to the second round of the FA Trophy.

It was joy for the 309 Robins fans who were back at The Spiers and Hartwell Jubilee Stadium for the first time since the end of October.

A tense first half ended 0-0 but Evesham took the lead with less than 20 minutes to go as substitute Jamie Lucas slotted home a penalty after Harry Franklin was fouled in the box.

Bideford snatched the win from the Robins grasp on the 88th minute as Lewis Wilson took advantage from a failed clearance.

With no extra time the game went straight to penalties with players on both sides producing quality finishes.

Fortunately for Neil Hunt’s side it was Bideford who faltered, as Lewis Clayton made the all important save before Ryan Paddock slotted home the winner.
