Shabir Haidary claims IBO Intercontinental belt with second round knockout against Adam Mbega

Gloucestershire boxer Shabir Haidary cruised to a second-round victory, as the 25-year-old won his first ever professional title fight.

The referee stopped the fight one minute and 29 seconds into the second round at The Meca in Swindon.

The Afghan Warrior, who fights out of Fight Factory in Gloucester, had a clear plan of how he wanted the bout to go and executed to perfection.

“I just wanted to go in like a steam train and get him out of there in the first round, but I had to be safe, I had to make sure I didn’t get a cut or be too hasty in there because I had ten rounds”.

The victory came three days after Haidary attended his graduation ceremony at Cheltenham Racecourse, but for the Afghan Warrior the real celebration came after the final bell.

“Amazing, absolutely amazing, it couldn’t have gone any better, no injuries. An easy night of work, get in there and get the Job done. That was my graduation”.

The win keeps Haidary undefeated, with a professional record of 7-0 and said the preparation for his fight was crucial to his victory.

“I had an abundance of confidence; I know my training has been absolutely top notch. The camp has been amazing, and the nutrition has been good, so I know I haven’t cut any corners. I have spared the top fighters, so nothing could have stopped me in that ring today.”

Haidary is keen to fight again as soon as possible and insists he can maintain his performances.

“As soon as I can get another date, I will be out. I will be ready when the opportunity comes.

The Afghan Warrior is coached by Jon Pitman along with strength and conditioning (S&C) Edward Baker, and believes his team will guide him to the top.

“My team is getting better and better. Edward Baker a top S&C coach, he has got me in the best shape and Jon is a master, a master of boxing. My team is absolutely top notch, and we are going all the way to the world title”

Haidary is cheered on by a committed group of supporters of all ages, and the support is not going unnoticed.

“Thank you to all the fans that came and showed there support, spending their hard earned money to come and show there support especially with Christmas coming up. I know its hard for a lot of people and you guys still came and showed your support, I am very grateful and love you all”.
