“Really looking forward to it” – Dafydd Williams on Gloucester City’s must-win midweek trip to Walton & Hersham

Gloucester City are hoping to make a dent into Walton & Hersham’s title ambitions on Tuesday night and produce a big boost to their own in Surrey.

Dafydd Williams’ side are currently in 3rd place in the Southern Premier Division South, ten points behind Walton & Hersham and two points behind Poole Town but with two games in hand.

The Gloucestershire side hadn’t won since before Christmas until Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Tiverton Town which featured goals from Marcus Day, Joe Hanks and Kieran Phillips.

Two big away trips now await Gloucester City with a fixture against top of the league Walton & Hersham before a game against sixth placed Sholing on Saturday.

“We’re only looking at the next one,” Williams said. “I don’t really care about the one beyond that and as it happens it is Walton. Really looking forward to it and as I say the priority is to almost restart our season again and I feel like we’ve done that in many ways.”

Rylie Siddall and Jamal Mohammed were signed last week, and both were introduced into the side for Saturday’s victory alongside Morgan Lewis from Merthyr Town.

Siddall joined on a one-month loan from Coventry City whilst Jamal Mohammed has also moved to Gloucester for a month on loan from fellow Championship side West Bromwich Albion.

“I thought all three were very good,” Williams said. “It’s exactly what this group needs now a little bit of a freshen up.

“I’m not going to be bringing in players that I don’t think are good enough and I don’t feel reach the standard that we expect so the fact they played well wasn’t a surprise to me, but I’m really pleased for them, and I’m really pleased for the group.”

In February, Gloucester will kick-off the month as they travel to Gosport Borough on Wednesday, February 4 before home clashes against Weymouth and Wimborne and away games against Chertsey and Tiverton before ending the month versus Poole.

“I think we’re in the best position we have been in for a while now,” Williams added. “Obviously Elis [Watts] coming back next week, and KT [Kieran Thomas] is close and obviously the three lads that have come into the building.”
