Swindon Town scraped a 2-1 win at the Nigel Eady County Ground against nine-man Rotherham United on Saturday.
The Millers found themselves down to 10 within five minutes, Jili Buyabu receiving a straight red for purposely elbowing Jack Thompson in the face in an off-the-ball challenge.
The hosts took the lead through Thompson, before centre-back Dominic Iorfa and manager Alex Bruce were also given their marching orders.
Joe Hungbo doubled the Robins’ lead, but nine-man Rotherham got one back through other centre-back Denzel Hall in the last few minutes.
However, despite the fact Swindon picked up a vital three points, manager Ian Holloway was not happy with his side’s performance.
“Probably the least enjoyable game of all however many I’ve managed. It was bizarre, it was weird. Why their player did that, that early in the game, I don’t know. Most bizarre game I’ve ever seen in my life, honestly it is. We’ll take it and move on, and hopefully we can build on this.
“My teams lack of being able to play together because of the injuries we have had, that showed at the end. We were completely devoid of any communication and talking. Hopefully, we can regroup, sort that out; that’s nothing like what I want to see with us against nine men,” Holloway continued.
“We’re not moving it sharp enough or creating things, although we got ourselves two nil up. What can I say, Connor (Ripley) has been outstanding and goes and drops it. (Ollie) Palmer, I don’t know what he was doing. I don’t know why he’s dribbling and turning up his own backside.”
The result leaves Swindon sat 13th, on 19 points, and mean Rotherham remain 22nd, with 23rd-placed Colchester United having a game in hand.
“We got three points, and that’s the only good thing I can say about the game really.”
The Robins travel to two League One outfits next, Stadium MK their first venue, as they take on MK Dons in the First Round of the FA Cup, before a trip South midweek to face Plymouth Argyle in the Jersey Mike’s Trophy.
