Longlevens have made it to the third round of the FA Vase for the first time ever after being knocked out in the second round on four previous occasions.
An Alex Parsons first half header helped the Gloucestershire-based team to the 1-0 victory, which they were able to hold on to despite Cirencester’s best efforts for an equaliser.
“It was a tough game. We had to dig in really well against a strong opposition and we defended fantastically, and we scored a great goal in the first half. So overall, really pleased to make into the next round”, stated Levens co-manager Pete Boyle.
Longlevens will be the only Gloucestershire-based team to be in the hat for the third round, which is set to be drawn on Monday afternoon.
The Levens, who currently sit one place above the Centurions in 12th, will hope a positive run in cup competitions will help give them momentum to rise up the table.
“We just want to keep winning games no matter what the cup competition is. Going 11 unbeaten now gives us all motivation we need to keep on pushing.”
Next up for Longlevens is when they’ll feature in the Floodlit Cup, a competition that they’re currently champions of, where they’ll travel to Oxfordshire to face Wantage Town. Cirencester will head to Carteton, where they’ll bid to put Saturday’s disappointment behind them.
