“I am confident of getting our title hopes over the line” UOG first team captain Dylan Venn has his sights set on silverware

It has been a great campaign for the University of Gloucestershire mens first team who are unbeaten in the league and require two points from their final two games to clinch the league title.

They travel to bottom of the league Plymouth on Wednesday 12th March, where a win would see UOG lift the trophy and reap the rewards for their hard working season. If they fail to win down on the South Coast it will set up a mouth watering title decider between Gloucester and Exeter the following week.

First team captain Dylan Venn is looking forward to whats around the corner.

“I’m really positive, the boys have been really good this year obviously unbeaten in the league two games to go and I don’t see how we don’t win the league.”

Venn was vital and led by example after his man of the match performance last time out in a 3-1 home victory over Exeter 4s, Venn was dominant in the midfield and grabbed himself a lovely solo goal after nipping past two players before a nice left footed finish into the corner, the skipper will be looking for a repeat turn of events next week in that decisive game.

The UOG boys will look to make it double success with one eye already looking forward to a varsity clash with Worcester, last year saw Worcester come out as 5-2 winners but its a new Gloucester side that they will face which has improved massively since the game last year. Heading into varsity, Venn believes they are in a great position.

“Yeah really confident with our league form being so good, I think Worcester are having a bit of trouble after getting promoted last season, so I really do back us and think we can get the win.”

A separate selection which had to be chosen was Varsity team captain, Venn was selected for this due to his impressive leadership skills on the pitch throughout the course of this season. But it was more of a personal triumph for Venn as he is in his final year and a win in varsity as captain would be his perfect send off.

“It was great i have had a lot of support from my teammates, the last few years we have had some great captains, last year was Joe Comerford was a big player but it was an honour really but i am happy to do it.”

Ivor Gumm took the reigns and was happy to be announced as Gloucestershire’s manager at the beginning of the season and his impact has been monumental and Venn was full of praise for his manager ” hes been really good, very good man manager a lot of those who have had to change positions or play in different roles or different systems that they have needed to play in, hes really come in and done a good job on us.”
