Stay Away Fay has beaten the 5/2 favourite Corbetts Cross to win the the Spa Novices Hurdle.
It was Affordale Fury who came in second place with Sandor Clegane finishing in third.
Stay Away Fay was in the lead throughout the race and finished emphatically to claim the victory with jockey Harry Cobden riding well.
Letsbeclearaboutit finished in 4th.
On the scuffle that led to a stumble over the final fence from many riders, winning jockey Harry Cobden said: “I was aware. I could hear what happened behind me. At the last they all just pulled up in front of me, but this horse is very experienced.
“It’s nice to get a win before the big one!”
The showpiece event of the Cheltenham Festival, the Gold Cup begins at 15:30.
