Gavin Gunning’s thoughts on Accrington Stanley game after “frustrating match” against Mansfield Town

Swindon Town, who sit 18th, prepare themselves for a bottom-of-the-league clash against Accrington Stanley, who sit 16th, as they search for only their third win this calendar year.

Town were unfortunate to come away with nothing in their recent game against Mansfield Town as they lost 3-2 in a thriller in the East Midlands.

Although the match ended in defeat Gunning said he “couldn’t be prouder of the boys” for their efforts.

However, Gunning acknowledges that the team needs to be “more professional” as they equalised twice but conceded straight after both times.

Gunning described his side’s leakiness as “uncoachable” and that his side needs to “keep it together for these basic moments in games”.

When asked about Accrington Stanley the now third-time interim manager said “we can’t afford to have another game like that”

“Stanley have a new interim now (John Doolan) and he will make sure to capitalise on how we played today”.

The ex-Blackburn Rovers defender went on to say, “we have to stay positive though, playing in front of our fans tonight means we need to be confident”.

“Obviously we need to work on our first 10-15 minutes in games, but we will sort that with time”.

Town are searching for their first win in March as they face Accrington Stanley, hoping to replicate their form from the start of their 2023/24 EFL League Two campaign.
