Forest Green will have to be at their “very best”, if they are to get a much-needed result away at Plymouth Argyle, who currently sit second in the League One table just three points off the top spot, says Duncan Ferguson.
Forest Green’s season hasn’t gone the way Ferguson would have liked with his side rooted to the bottom of the League winless in their last 16 games, but Ferguson, who joined the club back in January, has been impressed with what he’s seen from his side despite the results. Speaking in his pre-match press conference, he said: “I was happy with the performance (against Bristol Rovers) when I was watching the game I thought we played well, I’ve watched the game back two or three times to confirm that we started the game really well unfortunately we never pushed for that second goal one or two mistakes punished us.”
Speaking on the opposition on Saturday, Ferguson seemed impressed by their recent home record in the league. He added: “They’ve got a tremendous home record, they’ve only lost one game (at home) they’ve scored a lot of goals. They’re a top team but we will be committed we will try our very best and hopefully we can come away with something.”
Despite The Pilgrims home form Ferguson is hoping his team can “frustrate” the home side and his team can grab a much needed result. He said: “We need to stick to the game plan, keep concentrated, defend the box really well, but of course we need to make sure we are a threat going forward, we need to keep the ball when we get it and try and cause them a threat going forward and take any chances that come along.”
Ferguson also confirmed that his side will be without defender Baily Cargill until the end of the season, the 27-year-old, who has started 22 times this season, has had an operation on his knee, Ferguson explained: “I think it will be (the end of Cargill’s season). This knee injury has been going on with the lad for a while, so I think it’s only right he goes and gets it cleaned up.”
Forest Green with also be without defender Ben Stevenson who has a knee injury, another player missing for Rovers is 20-year-old midfielder Charlie McCann, the former Manchester United academy graduate will also be “out for a while.”
The match between the two sides will be at the normal 15:00 kick off time.
