Swindon Wildcats coach Aaron Nell was “delighted” with his teams 6-0 victory against the Bristol Pitbulls this weekend, solidifying their third place spot.
After narrowly losing 2-1 on Friday night to top of the table Leeds Knights, it was a huge turnaround performance with Renny Marr picking up his third shutout of the season.
Nell was “very impressed” with how well Marr “bounced back from last weekend” and “made some big saves to keep them in the second period.”
Josh Shaw was also amongst the scoring as he netted the Wildcats sixth goal against his former team. Giving it the ‘showtime celebration’.
Nell was full of praise for the youngster quoting “He’s working really hard with a great attitude.”
“I was really happy for him to score and all the rest of the players were delighted for him as well.” Nell added.
The Canadian duo Colby Tower and Gael Lubwele were also amongst the goals on Saturday with Tower becoming an essential piece to the Wildcats power play.
The Wildcats power play has been key for them this season with a 30.85% conversion rate, the highest in the league.
“Colby is so important to our power play as his energy and fight to win the puck back gives us more opportunities to score,” said Nell and that showed as Tower scored two key goals on the power play.
It was also the first weekend since Christmas where the Cats had no injuries and a full fit squad for Nell to work with which is a massive positive as the playoffs are fast approaching.
The Wildcats have a tough weekend ahead of them next week as they play Friday, Saturday and Sunday with trips up to Sheffield and Hull.
A few of the Wildcats players will also be attending the Cheltenham races this week which will be good team bonding ahead of the final stretch of the season.
