The auction for the men’s Hundred competition gets underway today. A tournament which aims for fast games and big scores.
The Hundred has changed format this year, introducing an auction similar to the IPL.
Teams have retained or signed directly four players ahead of this auction, and will bid against each other to fill the remaining slots in their team. Each team can have a maximum of 16 players and a minimum of 14 with four overseas player slots.
There are plenty of Gloucestershire players in the auction, so here are five to keep an eye out for.
- David Payne
The most expensive and highest Gloucestershire player on the list. Payne played for the Welsh Fire last season, taking 10 wickets in eight matches. The 35-year-old, left-arm fast bowler took six wickets in the space of nine balls. Payne was named Vitality Blast Player of the Year in 2024 during Gloucestershire’s campaign, and claimed 33 wickets in 17 matches.
2. Dawid Malan
Malan has joined up with Gloucestershire ahead of the 2026 and 2027 seasons. The batter finished as Yorkshire’s leading Blast run-scorer in 2023 and 2024, as well as captaining their side in 2025. In The Hundred, Malan has represented Trent Rockets and Northern Superchargers, scoring 182 runs off 128 balls during last year’s competition.
3. Tom Boorman
Tommy Boorman is only 20-years-old, but is the third highest Gloucestershire player on the Hundred Auction list. Despite not having played many first-class games for Gloucestershire, Boorman is regarded as one of the up-and-coming talents for the county. He scored 105 runs in eight Metro Bank One Day Cup matches at an average of 26.
4. James Bracey
The wicketkeeper-batter has been a mainstay in Gloucestershire since 2018. In five Vitality Blast games last year, Bracey scored 39 runs off 42 balls. Whilst most sides already have a wicketkeeper in their retained lists, Bracey could prove to be a big hitter for any of the sides.
5. Marchant De Lange
The only bowler in the top five of this link, Marchant De Lange brings over 380 first-class wickets to the tournament. In last season’s Vitality Blast, De Lange took eight wickets in four matches, conceding 145 runs. De Lange was the first player to take a five-wicket haul in the Hundred, taking 5-20 against Southern Brave in 2021. De Lange is also a Hundred winner, taking the crown with the Oval Invincibles in 2024.
