Roy Keane, who managed Sunderland from 2006-2008 in his very first head coach role, is tipped to make a sensational return to the Black Cats. He could even make an appearance at the Jonny-Rocks tomorrow night as the Robins host Sunderland in League One.
Keane looks set for the vacant position, as bookmakers have suspended bets on him taking up the Black Cats’ managerial role after Lee Johnson was sacked last week.
When questioned about the prospect of taking up the role on an ITV broadcast, Keane was coy, and responded “I’ve got no control over it, so no comment,” before he smiled.
The Robins will go into the game fighting for their first win since November, which would inflict a third successive defeat on Sunderland. The Black Cats were dominant in the reverse fixture at the Stadium of Light in September, winning 5-0.
More details will follow later this afternoon about the clash, with Michael Duff holding his pre-match press conference at 1.30pm.
