‘An honour’ – Bristol Rovers interim boss sends emotional message after Carlisle win aids League One promotion quest

Bristol Rovers interim manager Andy Mangan says being in charge of the Gas is ‘an honour’, and that the best is yet to come from his side this season.

Mangan took temporary control of the Pirates following Joey Barton’s departure last month, and four games in to his tenure, Rovers remain unbeaten.

They have netted 11 goals with Mangan at the helm, in three wins and one draw. Following his side’s 1-0 win at Carlisle on Saturday, the manager admitted how much he is enjoying the opportunity.

“Im absolutely loving it, it’s an honour,” Mangan said. “I live in the city, I spend all my time there, my family come down and spend time in the city too, it’s an amazing city and the fans have always been incredible with us.

“Every single man put their body on the line today, I can’t wait to watch it back to be honest. It’s amazing to see when you’re standing on the sidelines, terrifying as well but I’m just so proud of the players and the staff.”

It remains unclear who will succeed Barton, and Mangan has hinted that he’d be open to make his current role permanent. If results and performances remain positive, who is to say he won’t be given the chance.

The interim boss has soon become a fan favourite, and he was quick to praise the loyal Rovers support after the victory.

Over 500 Gasheads made the trip from Bristol to Cumberland, while almost 3,000 of them travelled to watch their side draw against Reading last Tuesday night.

On the away support, Mangan said: “Amazing, I was devastated that we couldn’t give them that (victory) on Tuesday night but the fact that they’ve travelled here in such numbers – 14 of them were my family by the way – is amazing, to go over there and celebrate with them was great.

“The lads deserve that, more consistent performances and wins will make the fans happier and happier. This city deserve success, the Rovers side, they’ve seen it with us, let’s give them even more.”
