FA Cup preview: Forest Green Rovers vs Scarborough Athletic – first round replay

Forest Green Rovers face Scarborough Athletic at The New Lawn for the second time in ten days after a dramatic 1-1 draw at the Flamingo Land Stadium.

Rovers scored a 93rd minute equaliser courtesy of 18-year-old Olly Sully who has come through the academy at Forest Green, he also made his league debut this weekend in a 3-0 defeat to Tranmere Rovers.

Scarborough were unlucky to have to play a replay against the team 40 places above them in the football league after they held a 1-0 lead up until the late equaliser, after an interesting campaign so far in the National League North where they lie 16th but only two points of the playoffs, an FA Cup run could be added to a memorable season.

Forest Green are looking to bounce back after Saturday’s humiliation in Tranmere which leaves the Gloucestershire side in the relegation zone in League Two, first team manager David Horseman said his side ‘lacked physicality’ and expects a better approach tomorrow night.

Rovers have lost nine of their 12 home games this season whereas Scarborough have won four of their last five games and with Rovers struggling this season the pressure is building for Horseman.

Scarborough manager and former Manchester United player Jonathan Greening was ‘devastated’ after the late goal but was delighted with the effort his players left on the pitch, as the Seadogs look forward to a trip to Gloucestershire.

Greening also said that they showed the nation what we are about ‘hard work and honesty’ backing their moto ‘No battle, No victory.’

Horseman’s message after the defeat on Saturday was of apologetic tone as he examined they are ‘very frustrated with me’ as all eyes will be on The New Lawn this Tuesday night with the winner facing League One outfit Blackpool at Bloomfield Road.
