“We’ve owed a team a battering” – Gloucester City midfielder Harry Pinchard on 5-0 dismantling of Winchester City

Gloucester City continued their promotion push over the weekend with a 5-0 thrashing of Winchester City

It wouldn’t have been possible without player-of-the-match Harry Pinchard controlling the midfield, making it easy for his teammates.

The Welshman set the benchmark early on when he put the Tigers ahead in just six minutes, and was crucial to one of the best performances of the season.

Pinchard said: “We started the game on the front foot and didn’t let them settle at all.

“We were ruthless, took our chances even though we should have been 5 or 6-0 up in the first half, but going in 3-0 up, you can’t complain.

“We’ve owed a team a battering so it’s nice to do that now!”

Further goals from Keiran Phillips, Brandon Smalley, Dayle Grubb and an own goal ensured that the 1000+ fans at the TigerTurf Stadium went home delighted.

This win now makes it 11 games unbeaten for City, a sign of their incredible form going into the second half of the season.

With players coming back from injury and the team perfecting their style of play over the last few months, it’s no surprise that City’s quality has started to shine through.

Despite this great unbeaten streak, Pinchard insists that the team aren’t thinking about it.

He said: “Obviously it’s good, it shows character that we haven’t been losing but last week at Basingstoke we came away feeling like we had lost, even though we did equalise.

“When we draw games against teams a bit lower down it feels like a loss, we should be winning those games, but hopefully now we can string a few more wins together.”

Up next for Gloucester City is a trip to Poole Town, another side struggling near the bottom of the table.

Whilst most fans would expect this to be an easier fixture for City, and to get a nice result, Pinchard is clear that the team don’t underestimate any side.

He said: “I think it will be a tough one, I don’t know what the pitch is like but I can imagine it’s not great so we will have to adapt.

“We probably can’t play how we want to play, like we did today, but we’ve got to adapt and beat them!”
