“We will regroup, lick our wounds and crack on” – Redditch United manager Tim Flowers previews Telford home clash

Redditch United will be looking to rectify a run of four home defeats on the trot by defeating AFC Telford at The Valley Stadium.

Former Gloucester City boss Tim Flowers hopes that they can find the lethal touch that has seemed to elude them in recent weeks as they host the title favourite Lilywhites.

“We need to cause them problems if we can,” Flowers stated. “If we are going to sit back and defend all night, it’s going to be a long evening in front of us.”

The boss, who lasted just five months with the Tigers, struggled to hide his frustration after they failed to get another win, meaning they couldn’t take the initiative and propel themselves into the playoff spots.

The Reds dominated against the away side, but they struggled to convert numerous chances, as The Blues managed to smash and grab a 2-1 win.
“People are going to have to work hard to score against us, whereas we seem to have put together or produced a fantastic move or fantastic shot to score a goal, oppositions don’t seem to have to do that.
“We seem to give them something. We need to eradicate that. It’s not rocket science, but that’s three games now.”

An inability to convert chances has ensured that in the past week, they have only managed to pick up three points out of nine. Flowers, a former England keeper, was left frustrated as his side could not capitalise on a dominant performance.

Alex Cameron left frustrated after missing a guilt-edged opportunity

“Sudbury at home, I would say we shaded that game. Certainly, we dominated most of the game today, and at Barwell, we won on Monday, but we’ve taken three points out of the nine. That’s the frustrating thing.

“We should’ve taken three or four more, but we didn’t, so that’s our own fault, so we will regroup, lick our wounds and crack on.”

Telford, who were playoff final losers last season, have made a strong start to the season, currently sitting in 5th place in the Southern Premier Central, two points behind Kettering Town, with Stourbridge, Stamford, and Bedford Town having played at least a further game more.

The Bucks have won just one of their last four games in the division, albeit winning their last game away to Harborough Town. They will be hoping to reverse the slide if they have promotion ambitions of their own.

The away side have a strong record away from the SEAH Stadium, having won three of their six home encounters so far, while Redditch have the joint-second-worst home record, level with Bromsgrove Sport, Hitchin Town, while bottom side Biggleswade Town have yet to get a victory on their own patch.

Flowers has a plan to reverse their poor fortunes on their own turf and help address a slide that has seen them win just three of their last eight.

“We need to have a go and we should have some pace in the team so let’s see if we can cause them problems attacking wise.”
