UOG Mens Football took to the field after weeks waiting for their first game after recent postponements, including a trip to Plymouth just for the pitch to be waterlogged.
But they were quick to make their mark in a well rounded 3-0 win away to Bath, goals from Captain Dylan Venn, Rory Hunt and Adam Smith ensured the blues got off to a winning start.
It was a man of the match performance from Ben Brown, and we caught up with him following the win “we were resilient for sure it wasn’t a pretty performance, they dominated the ball but Dan never had to make a bunch of saves and we scored two goals in quick succession and moved onwards throughout the game from there.”
Confidence on the road is a momentum you want to keep and previewing to next week when the 1’s travel to Swansea, Brown is hopeful to continue the winning ways, “We have something to build off now, and the league is our main priority this year so we’re looking to keep that going.”
UOG 1’s will travel to Swansea for a 17:00 Kick off on Wednesday 6th November.
The side have set themselves numerous targets this season, but we were interested in what Brown personally wanted to achieve, ” Personally for me i’d like to score a few more goals, I only got the one last season and I would like to try and get three this season make myself more of a threat in the box, and clean sheets as a centre half you always want to be keeping a clean sheet.”
In regards to the team, it’s the rule of three; success in the league, the cup and most importantly Varsity is what the squad is striving for. Last season it was a narrow defeat in the league which saw SGS come out victorious, and a defeat against Worcester in the Varsity clash inflicted more pain into the season which was successful but nothing much to show of it.
A sneak peak ahead of the huge game of the year; VARSITY the biggest game of the year for each sport, but spirits are high and the goals are there for men’s football, “you know it is a while away but it is a focus, we have had some first years come in and definitely added some extra quality obviously we lost some players but the first years have come in and really impressed , last year it was a disappointing result but when the time comes we will be ready.”
