UOG cricketer Jack Brown – “We finished fifth in the nation, but we always look to improve”

University of Gloucestershire bowler Jack Brown is looking forward to what could be an incredibly exciting year for his side after their previously successful campaign.

Off the back of the team’s unbeaten league-winning outdoor season, the team rightly has “a lot of confidence” going into indoor BUCS over the upcoming months.

Being an integral part of the outdoor team last season, taking 15 wickets, Brown wants to play a big part over the winter in what is his last year at the university.

“The first few training sessions are really important, partly for bringing in freshers and getting them used to indoor cricket and also getting our players who are coming back to get back into the groove of it.”

Indoor BUCS set the tone for an incredible year for UoG Cricket. Reaching the Indoor Trophy Finals landed them ranked fifth in the nation. This laid the foundations for the promotion campaign in the outdoor season. They then won all five matches comfortably to become one of the only sports teams at the university in a Tier 1 BUCS league.

Before BUCS even begins, the Cheltenham Indoor League gets underway tonight for UoG with a fixture against Hatherley & Reddings CC, a team that they narrowly defeated in the semi-final of the cup 11 months ago. A huge performance from now-graduate, Neal Osborn helped UoG get over the line in a nail-biting affair.

Unfortunately, the team lost out in the final to Cheltenham Civil Service but are “looking to go one better for a great achievement.” The team was just short of success in the indoor league campaign last year. After finishing third, Civil Service also won that too for the league and cup double, for the second successive year. Glos will aim to turn the narrative this time round.
