Robbie Savage reacts to son Charlie Savage’s first senior goal in Forest Green Rovers defeat

Charlie Savage, son of former Wales international Robbie Savage netted his first goal in professional senior football on Saturday, as he scored the opener in Forest Green Rovers’ 3-1 defeat to Bristol Rovers.

The 19 year old joined the League One outfit late in the January transfer window and has impressed during his short time with Rovers, winning the club’s Player of the Month award for February.

And the midfielder would go one better not long after three o’clock on Saturday afternoon as he ran on to Jordon Garrick’s pass before rifling a shot past James Belshaw in the Gas goal.

Duncan Ferguson’s side would go on to lose the clash 3-1 at The Bolt New Lawn extending their winless run in all competitions to 16 games.

Father of Charlie, Robbie, caught wind of the goal whilst on the panel of pundits on BT Sport Score and what happened next was a truly heart-warming moment.

“My boy has scored,” exclaimed Savage after letting out a loud cheer learning his son had found the net.

“Go on my boy, get in there,” he continued.

“It’s emotional that. With all he’s been through wow. I’m so proud of him.”

It was a really nice moment for both father and son and you could really see what it all meant to the Savage family.

The youngster certainly opened his account in style and at such a young age with a bright future ahead, Manchester United will for sure be continuing to keep an eye on the midfield starlet.
