Cheltenham Town Women’s striker Jess Leach reflects on the key to ending the season in strong style in hope for silverware

Cheltenham Town Ladies were suited and booted ready for action on the weekend as they travelled to face AFC Wimbledon Women, but sudden turn of events saw the game called off due to ground conditions a very late decision was made after the ladies were just about to step onto the field for warm ups.

We caught up with Jess Leach, who shared her frustrations.

“Yeah definitely some frustration there as we’d obviously travelled all the way there, some of the girls lore than others, and had our boots on to go and warm up.

I think some of the frustration could’ve been avoided if they had checked the conditions a bit earlier and told us on route but it was out of our control and at the end of the day it’s the refs decision so we have to just move onto the next.”

It was an afternoon to forget for the Ladies but not at their own errors, but the priority is to focus and move on.

A very tough encounter with league leaders Hashtag United is what’s next up for the Ladies.

“We know hashtag are always a tough side and we’re anticipating that but it’s no different to any other game and we’re gonna go out and play the way we want to and give it 100% and aim to get a result from it.”

It would be a vital point or points if the ladies were able to get a result and move one step closer to safety.

A key priority now is safety, it is getting tight down at the bottom so any points that can be picked up in the remaining games are monumental, Leach explains ” It’s obviously very important! I don’t think we deserve to be in the position we are just based of performances over the last couple of weeks but that’s just how football goes sometimes and we’re aiming to turn it back around in the last few games of the season.”

But the cup magic is keeping the girls is high spirits with a county cup semi against Forest Green Rovers Ladies and a final in the plate against AFC Bournemouth Women to look forward too and try grab some silverware and reflect on the success in a positive light.

Leach is hopeful the girls can go on and get their hands on some silverware.

“Yeah it’s always exciting to be in these competitions and have a chance to win some silverware for the club.

“It’s the furthest we’ve got as a club in these competitions so we’re looking to build on our last performances and hopefully make it all the way.”

These fixtures will be played on the 13th March VS FGR Ladies and 13th April they face Bournemouth women in the final.
