“It’s a tough place to go but hopefully we can impose our game”: Michael Duff previews Morecambe away

This afternoon sees Cheltenham Town travel to Morecambe in League Two as Michael Duff’s side look to get back to winning ways following the Robins’ defeat to MK Dons on Tuesday.

Troy Parrott and Mo Eisa’s goals earlier in the week confined Cheltenham to their 12th loss of the season but they remain in midtable and could rise as high as 12th with a win against The Shrimps today.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Duff admitted that his side didn’t do enough to frustrate the Dons on Tuesday.

Their second goal killed us really, we wanted to frustrate them. They knew they had to win the game. Ultimately, it was just one of those nights where we were off.”

Duff was then asked whether his side’s late consolation on Tuesday was good for the team’s confidence before the Morecambe clash but he disagreed, saying it was all about his team keeping the morale high.

I don’t think the goal is too relevant but I commented after the game that there was no lack of spirit. The lads were 3-0 down and still running their hearts out and from my point of view that’s all you can ask for.”

On Morecambe, Duff emphasised that the hosts are on a difficult run of late but they are tough opponents to face.

They are a really hard team to beat. They proved it last year – they beat us twice. It’s a tough place to go and we’ve just been on a winless run as well and we didn’t think we were doing that bad.

They’re very similar. They haven’t just managed to nick one. They know where they are in the table, we’re getting down to single figures after Saturday so they’ll be fighting and scrapping.

Finally, Duff was asked whether a win this weekend would boost their survival hopes but the Robins boss believes his side are still in a relegation fight.

I don’t think Morecambe have been playing badly recently but I also still think we’re in a scrap. As I said, once you get into single figures [league games] you just have to win where you can.”
