“It’s a privilege I will not take for granted”- University of Gloucestershire Men’s Foootballer Jax Hundt on selection for England’s University Squad

“I’m incredibly honoured and grateful to have been selected (for the England University Squad). It’s a huge achievement for me personally and a reflection of the work I’ve put in”, University of Gloucestershire forward Jax Hundt on making the England University South Squad.

Hundt added, “It’s an honour to represent the University (of Gloucestershire), UDA, Cinderford and everyone back home in Indiana. Coming from the USA, it means a lot to be recognised at this level in English University football and it’s a privilege I will not take for granted.

In order to achieve his call-up, Hundt had to go through a series of trials, going up against players from the top sporting Universities in the country.

The 21-year-old was pleased with his performances on both occasions with the standard of football being at a extremely high standard.

“The trials were very competitive and challenging, but I really enjoyed the experience. The standard of football being played was top quality which pushed me to perform at my best and test myself against players from the best Universities.

“Across the two trials I scored three goals and grabbed three assists which I was delighted with and alongside my overall performances, managed to get me into the squad.”

Hundt has been one of several players from the United States of America to feature in UOG’s Men’s Football first team so far this season.

The Indiana-born striker admitted how much he has enjoyed his football this season in a side which is on a superb run of form.

“I’ve really enjoyed playing with the English lads. They have been very welcoming from day one which has made the transition from the U.S much easier.

“Our forward-thinking and physical style of play suits my game and everyone shares the same goal of winning and working together as a team.”

However, Hundt was not the only member of the squad to be selected. Defender Mikkiel Graham was also called up having had a tremendous season so far for the boys in blue.

The striker could not hide his delight in having his team-mate in the 28-man squad alongside him.

“I’ve known Mikkiel since the start of University to achieve this with him I could not be prouder. We push each other everyday in training and our connection off the pitch only helps us perform better on it.

“Sharing this achievement with him makes it even more special and reflects the strength of our team in Gloucestershire.”
