Swindon Town Under-18s manager, Sean Wood said “it will be a tough game” as his side prepare to take on Peterborough United on Tuesday afternoon in the Professional Development League Cup.
Swindon finished top of Group A to progress to the knockout stages in their debut campaign in the competition, and will travel to Cambridgeshire in hopes of reaching the semi-finals.
“It’ll be interesting to see if they can match a Category Two academy and put in a performance like they have done in recent weeks in the Youth Alliance League,” said Wood.
“It’ll be a really good test for the boys. It will be a tough game, we know that, but I’m looking forward to seeing if the boys can match them and get through to the next stage.”
Wood’s side are certainly in good form going into the contest, winning their last two league games against Exeter City and Cheltenham Town respectively, scoring nine goals and conceding zero.
On the recent 4-0 win against Cheltenham, Wood stated: “We’ve played them since the turn of the year already, so they know a lot about us and we know a lot about them.

“Sometimes that can cause different variables to the game, and it can be difficult to replicate how well you performed in the previous game so soon, but we managed to look like us. So it’s really pleasing to keep the momentum for the boys at the moment.”
Staying with the praise on his side’s level of performance, Wood said: “We put a lot of emphasis across the week on working without the ball in our half and in their half as well. Our front players are a massive part of our defending.”
He continued by saying: “We speak about it quite a lot on not just being good with the ball and scoring and getting assists, but also being very good without the ball.
“So, as a team, collectively, we’re working hard, we’re working for each other and I think that’s having a massive influence at the moment on how we perform as a group.”
