Forest Green Rovers boss Robbie Savage called out the personal abuse directed at him by Carlisle United supporters during Saturday’s game.
Savage’s Rovers lost 4-2 at Brunton Park, which leaves them fifth in the National League, but the game was overshadowed by what the Welshman described as “vile comments” aimed at him from the home stands.
The Rovers boss said: “There are people of varying ages, there will be some in high power positions at work who think it is acceptable to come and hurl vile abuse towards another human being.
“Stewards, volunteers, whoever is standing there is allowing it to happen consistently.
“It’s not acceptable, but nothing will be done about it, it happens all the time, it happened the other night at Worthing, it happened again tonight, but nothing is ever done.
“I’m expected to stand there and take that abuse because it’s me – it’s not acceptable.”
The 51-year-old, who celebrated his birthday on Saturday reunited with his ‘hero’ Mark Hughes in the dugout, but the day was tarnished by cruel taunts from Carlisle fans.
“I don’t mind the banter with the other bench, when they score, they give it to me, I’ve got no problem with that, I would have done the same thing, so fair play,” he added.
“I’ll stand there and take photos with kids, I’ve just taken photos with some youngsters.
“I’ll stand there and I’ll take it for my team, take the banter, and when they’re singing songs about me as an individual, I’ve got no problem with that.
“But, when you get the level of abuse that crosses the line, it’s unacceptable.
“When it crosses the line and the stuff said becomes nasty and what’s said is wrong, what’s done about it?”
