“I have full belief and trust in that these guys know what they’re doing” – Birmingham City fan believes in Blues owners amid shocking Wayne Rooney managerial appointment

“Every decision they make is benefiting the club in a positive way.”

Following last week’s shock announcement that Wayne Rooney has become the new manager of Birmingham City, the new Blues owners have still been getting the backing of fans.

Zach Woods, who is the co-host of the Birmingham podcast, Blues Focus, has been a Birmingham fan for almost 10 years. He expressed his and Blues fans concerns when the news first came out that Eustace has been sacked.

“At first it was quite a surprise,” Woods explained.

“It’s quite rare that Blues are doing so well in the season, so the majority feeling was anger, disappointment and frustration. But now a little bit of time has passed, we’ve had quite clear communication from the club as to why the decision was made. Gary Cook our CEO, recently wrote a letter to fans and we’ve since had Rooney’s first press conference where he spoke about the future of the club and what he wants to do and achieve.”

Birmingham have had their troubles with owners in recent years. Their previous owner, Carson Yeung was arrested in 2011 on charges of money-laundering, which lead to Blues being handed a transfer embargo. Then just last season, Birmingham fans voiced their displeasure at the BSHL (Birmingham Sports Holding Company), by protesting at numerous games calling for the holding company to leave the club.

Zach feels this time is different and he is determined to stand by the new owners and the decisions they make.

“Blues aren’t used to fantastic owners,” the Blues fan emphasised.

“We obviously had the BHSL era which was just awful and prior to that Carson Yeung, who was a terrible owner as well. Having the people that have come in with Jeremy Dale, Tom Wagner and also Tom Brady (NFL star) now on the board, and do what they’ve done so far has been brilliant. The Eustace decision was questioned, but from what they’ve done prior and what they will hopefully continue to do, they’ve been so fantastic, and I have full belief and trust in that these guys know what they’re doing and every decision they make is benefiting the club in a positive way.”

Although Rooney is a big name in football, the former Manchester United striker hasn’t been as successful in his managerial career. The Englishman has only got a 27.7% win record, with him only previously managing Derby County and D.C. United.

The new Blues manager insisted in his first press conference, that it his goal to bring Birmingham back to the Premier League.

“I don’t read too much into press conferences personally because it’s very easy to say these things and I think our fans can sometimes get a bit too ahead of themselves when these press conferences happen,” Woods insisted.

“But in terms of what Rooney said, it did sound pretty positive. Having such a big name at the club and such an experienced player, I think it can only have a positive impact on the players.”

The Wayne Rooney era kicks off this weekend as Birmingham travel to the Riverside Stadium to face Middlesbrough on Saturday.
