Ethon Archer said “I am happy here, I am progressing here and hopefully that continues” after penning a one year contract extension at Cheltenham Town.
Archer’s new terms will see him tied down at the club until 2027.
22-year-old Archer, who had never played a Football League minute prior to joining the Robins from Torquay United in the summer of 2024, was delighted to have penned new terms with the League Two club.
“Yeah most definitely, it’s always something I wanted to do in life and be a footballer so to extend another year of me being a footballer, truly grateful for that.
“I am happy here, I am progressing here and hopefully that continues.
“It was all a little bit alien to me, obviously it being my first professional year and how fast it’s going but hopefully it continues to go at that pace and I can keep on kicking on.”

Formerly of local Non-League clubs Raynes Park Vale and Three Bridges, the Robins player never expected that he would be in the position that he currently sees himself in an established Football League side.
“I wouldn’t have thought I would be in this position many years ago and I am very grateful for that.
“Back in July it was to just get in the team, get as many minutes as possible but then it turned into getting as many goals and assists as possible over time so it is a bit wow.
“Again it was surprising, but obviously that’s what I’ve come to do, I have come to play and I am happy that I am playing and I just hope to continue bettering myself helping the team win games and try to push for that promotion.”
The versatile player can play across the midfield line as well, as the left winger has seen his role adjust over the course of the season in the furthest forward attacking role.

Archer, who has 11 goal contributions to his name in the League Two season, admits that he would be willing to play wherever former Newport County and Swindon Town manager Michael Flynn would want him to play him.
“The gaffer has trusted me, even in the role as a midfielder now and I am just happy that I can do the work for him.
“I have played midfield before so it wasn’t completely alien to me, but it was much different to when I did play but I think it’s just showing a bit of my versatility.
“The other side of the game and not just trying to get goals and assists, but trying to be a little bit ugly with it.”
Last time out for Town in the league they defeated playoff hopefuls AFC Wimbledon in West London, in a special win that saw the Cotswold side move to within seven points of the playoffs, but it was an even more special win for the London-born player.
“I was a steward there at the back end of 2021, doing some stewarding there and playing non-league at the time so I wasn’t there at every game but midweek games when I could go I would go and steward.
When I was there I just thought imagine one day being part of this as player and thank God it happened.”
