Cheltenham Town Women delivered a commanding 8-0 victory against Forest Green Rovers Women in the Gloucestershire County Cup semi-finals last night. The club has secured a spot in two upcoming finals.
The impressive win at home showcased the team’s clinical finishing and growing confidence. They now look forward to competing for more silverware this year.
The result has set up the Robinesses with a County Cup Final and a Plate Cup Final against AFC Bournemouth, promising another challenging encounter.
Captain Emily Owen was thrilled with her side’s performance. She shared, “I’m really pleased, to be honest. We did what we needed to in training, and we took that into the game.”
She expressed, “I’m happy because we took control of the game, we didn’t relax on the ball, showed a lot of confidence, and overall, I’m pleased with the outcome today.
“I think on the day we will feel even more confident and get thoughts of winning. It’s something we are going to do.”

The centre back revealed: “Finals are important so it’s something that we do strive for – and just try to be the best that we can be and get ourselves as far as we can in certain things. So, I’m looking forward to both next finals.”
The Robiness’s attacking power was on full display throughout the match, with the girls scoring six goals during the first half, and the final two in the second. The away side did a great job at putting up a fight, despite their efforts, they couldn’t find a way back into the game.

Una Lue was the standout player, scoring an incredible five goals in the match, bringing her total for the season to 19. Captain Owen also contributed to a goal, making it her 11th goal for the club this season.
“I love it. I thought it was more, but I’ll take it”, Owen conveys jokingly. She adds, “I’m buzzing, being at the back as well, I just try to get up there as much as I can. I just make sure that I finish.
“Being clinical and potentially being one of the key and target players in corners I try my best in set pieces like today. It’s key for me that I make sure I’m making them [goals] count really.”
With their place in two finals secured, Cheltenham Town Women are now focused on the next big challenge – a league match against AFC Wimbledon this Sunday.

Owen explained, “We take every game as it comes, we prepare, we examine and prepare in the exact same way we did as today, whether it’s a cup or league game.”
“We will go into it the same as we have been doing in the last couple of games, and hopefully bring a good performance, and mostly bring home a big three points.”

The victory also comes at an exciting time for Cheltenham Town as a whole, with the men’s team also facing AFC Wimbledon earlier in the week and securing a 2-1 win.
Looking ahead, Cheltenham Town Women are not just aiming for a successful season but are looking to make history with their performances. With two finals on the horizon and a strong run of form, they are determined to continue their pursuit of success this season.
