Ryan Haynes joined Cheltenham Town on a free transfer from Northampton in the summer, having played under current Robins manager, Michael Flynn, during his time with Newport County in 2019.
Haynes made eight appearances for Town at the start of this year’s campaign. He discussed the steps in moving to a new club and what its like settling in,
“We’ve got a really good group of lads, we signed Benno (Scot Bennett) and Joe (Joe Day) who I knew from Newport when coming in but everyone’s been really friendly. It’s kinda been a big turnaround this summer,
“I think we signed, what was it, 18 players or something? So everyone was new, and it’s honestly been plain sailing, which is good.”
Haynes settled into the club quickly and played in 8 matches to start the season, as well as providing a good account of himself in pre-season.
Haynes assists Dulson during a pre-season game against Plymouth Argyle at the EV Charger Points Stadium:
In the 45th minute, Haynes was withdrawn due to injury at the Peninsula Stadium in Salford. Flynn later confirmed he was ‘injured innocuously and would be out for four to six months’. This was a huge blow for Cheltenham but here’s Haynes’ view on the injury and the steps toward recovery,
“All the lads have been really good, really supportive.
“You know, when you hit your little milestones, the lads give you that little bit, especially the physio’s, the physio’s have been top class.”
Away from football, Haynes has been keeping busy:
“I’m always doing things away from football because I just like to keep myself busy, I can’t sit around so I’m always up to something. Photography is a big thing for me, practicing here with the lads or at home with the dog I’m always using the camera”
Shifting focus back onto football, the Full-Back is taking positive steps in the road to recovery and spoke regarding his outlook on his future and when he will return:
“I’m back running on the Alter G (Anti-Gravity Treadmill) which is a positive, you know it’s a big milestone for myself,
“I think I’ve still got around four months, I think, which is obviously quite a while. But you tick off little wins every now and again, and that was one of them. I feel good, really good, but obviously, there’s still a long way to go
“I haven’t, touch wood, had any real setbacks as of yet so yeah I’m just feeling really good, really positive and looking forward to getting back.”
Haynes will aching to play again for the Robins, who have performed well in his absence, sitting 14th in Sky Bet League Two after 17 matches.
