“Everyone is working really hard” Midfielder Leah Burridge pleased with her teammates recent performances after yesterday’s 3-0 win away at Gwalia United

Oxford United midfielder Leah Burridge praised her teammates for their ruthlessness in front of goal as they ran out 3-0 winners at Gwalia United.

The U’s now move up to third leapfrogging Exeter City in the National League south.

Burridge said: “It was a really good performance from us today, clean sheet, Phoebie scored some cracking goals so it was great in terms of being a bit more clinical in the final third and ultimately great prep for next weeks game against Exeter.”

Phoebie Poole opened the scoring early on in Wales, then midway through the second half Poole scored her second and third to seal off an impressive performance in her homeland.

The U’s have four more games left of the season and look to try and finish third in the league. Oxford’s next game is against Exeter City at the MGroup stadium, but they face a challenge as the Grecians sit one place below them in fourth.

Earlier on in the season, the U’s won 3-0 thanks to goals from Phoebie Poole x2 and Adele Lindbek bringing back all three points back to Oxfordshire.

As the season is soon coming to a close, Burridge knows that their are still challenges to face with only four games remaining:

“We still wanna be in a position to finish as high as we can in the league, everyone is working hard week in week out and we know in the next two games are going to be really competitive, a real big challenge for us and that’s why today was so important to be clinical in the final third to get some goals but also at the other end to defend as well as we can and to keep that clean sheet.”
