Erling Haaland Makes History As He Puts Five Past RB Leipzig In Champions League Demolition

Erling Haaland made history last night after scoring a remarkable five goals to help Manchester City sweep aside RB Leipzig with consummate ease and advance into the Champions League quarter-finals.

His goal-scoring heroics make him not only the fastest player to reach 30 goals in the European competition, but also the youngest.

It was certainly a day for rewriting the record books, as the Norwegian also became the youngest player to score five goals in a single Champions League match.

The record of being quickest to 30 goals was previously held by Ruud van Nistelrooy, who achieved it in 34 games. Haaland not only took the record off Nistelrooy, but he did with ease, ticking it off in an astonishingly quick 25 games.

The youngest player to reach 30 goals in the competition was previously Lionel Messi, who accomplished the feat at the age of 23 years and 131 days. However, that is another record that City’s top goal-scorer has taken claim of, doing it at the young age of 22 years and 236 days.

The record breaking didn’t stop there, as Haaland’s fifth strike of the night confirmed his addition to the very short list of Messi and Luiz Adriano, the select few who have scored five goals in a single Champions League fixture.

It’s already been an extremely freakish season for the Norwegian, who has netted 39 goals in 36 games, and its only March.

Having already tallied up 10 goals in the competition, he will be eyeing up Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of the most Champions League goals in a season, who netted 17 times for Real Madrid back in the 2013/14 campaign.

The Premier League top goal-scorer is also on track to beat Alan Shearer and Andy Cole’s joint custody of the record of scoring the most goals in the EPL in a single season.

Currently sat on 28 goals with 11 matches to go, it would not come as a surprise to see Haaland claim yet another record in what has already been a historic season for the forward.
